|
From the family Anatidae (ducks, geese and swans), the Canada Goose
(Branta Canadensis) has a distinctive black head and neck and large
white throat patch. The species was introduced from North America,
and has spread to cover most of the United Kingdom. It forms noisy
flocks and is often regarded as a nuisance in areas where large numbers
occur. It can be seen on amenity grassland, gravel pits, around lakes and
town parks. They are an estimated 47,200 breeding pairs in the United Kingdom,
with a total of 61,600 over-wintering in the UK.
