Feral Pigeon (Columba Livia)
|
 |
|
The feral pigeon (Latin: columba livia) is descended from the rock dove and has
adapted successfully to life in an urban environment. Feral, or domestic,
pigeons breed almost everywhere, with the highest density in the most populated
urban and suburban areas. Feral pigeons come in all shades, from pure white to
blue-grey with double black wing bars and white rump, through various colour
combinations to pure black. They generally have red feet. In urban areas where
the numbers are allowed to increase, and where they rely on man for food, they
can become pests.
