Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus )
|
 |
|
The great black-backed gull (Larus marinus ) is a very large and thick-set
member of the gull (Laridae) family. It has a heavy flight and can look
quite hunched when perched. It has a powerful beak and can be aggressive,
fighting off other gulls and chasing them to snatch food. Adults are blacker
than the smaller Lesser black-backed gull. They are usually found around
the coasts in the breeding season. At other times of year this omnivorous
gull can be found wherever gulls congregate - at reservoir roosts, rubbish
tips inland, and bays and harbours.
