Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus)
|
 |
|
A member of the gull (Laridae) family, and slightly smaller than
a herring
gull, the lesser black-backed gull (Latin: Larus fuscus) has a dark grey to
black back and wings, yellow bill and yellow legs. They are increasingly
common in urban habitats, even in inland locations such as the West Midlands.
In winter it is most likely to be seen feeding over fields and at rubbish
tips, or congregating at large reservoir roosts each evening. UK numbers are
supplemented over winter by birds arriving from Scandinavia.
